Why Eightmile?
Parkrun is brilliant, but it’s short.
Races are inspiring, but they’re expensive and infrequent.
Clubs are social, but they can feel unstructured.
Eightmile is the affordable, consistent middle ground; the perfect step up for every runner.

Uptown Trail

The 7 mile Uptown Trail start in Bournemouth Gardens right in the centre of Bournemouth and immediately heads into shaded paths past urban landmarks, before the route opens up into quieter gardens and hidden trails on the edge of town.

Trail lovers will feel at home on the Canford Eight. Starting just outside Canford Heath’s open tracks and woodland paths, with wide skies and natural scenery it's 99% on Heathland trails; soft trail underfoot, and a sense of space make this a pure grassroots challenge.

The Chineburn blends coastal chine valleys and inland parks into one. Starting by the seafront, the route carries you up through shaded chines, across rolling trails, and back down towards the sea.

Frequently asked questions

What is EIGHT?

A series of minimalist, timed 8-mile run challenges through epic terrain. Not a race, not a walk, it's your pace, your challenge.

What support is available?

We keep things minimalist, but you're never left hanging.

  • Start Line Support: Every event has a staffed table at the start for check-in, questions, and gear help.

  • Route Guidance: Various maps are available online to ensure you never get lost! Where permitted, you'll find arrow markers to assist.

  • Volunteers: Some events include local volunteers to guide or cheer you on β€” no formal marshals, just friendly faces.

  • Live Timing: Your run is tracked via Webscorer.

  • Message Us Anytime: We're available via email and social if you have questions before or after your run.

We aim to keep it simple, seamless, and supportive β€” with just enough infrastructure to make it feel pro, without the circus.

Can I track my past times to see if I am improving?

Yes, you can track your progress via our results page.

Do I get a medal for coming first?

There are no strict age restrictions; all runners are welcome to challenge themselves at their own pace.

Is it a race?

No. While timed, Eightmile is not billed or structured as a race. It’s a personal training challenge, not a competition or public event.

Is Eightmile a race event?

No. EIGHT operates as a membership-based training model. Members gain access to scheduled, self-guided runs via membership.

Why is there a fee?

Membership fees support route planning, risk assessments, timing systems, refreshments, charity, and sustainability.

How do I follow the route?

Members receive GPS files for sports watches, google map routes (for phones) and info packs all available online. Briefing notes and digital timing instructions included.

Do you close roads?

No – EIGHT runs are designed to be simple, self guided, and low impact. We don't close roads or set up barriers. Instead, routes are designed to avoid busy areas and keep you moving safely and smoothly:

  • No road closures or major traffic disruption

  • Any minor road crossing required are always at point of zebra crossings, or other personal safety crossings.

  • Where permitted by PROWs and official maps, discreet arrow markers may be placed to help with navigation (non fixed infrastructure).

  • No official marshals, but friendly volunteers may be present to help at key points. This approach keeps costs low, flexibility high, and lets us focus on what matters: great routes, clean timing, and a challenge you can make your own.

Are there any age restrictions?

Nope β€” Eightmile isn’t about winning, it’s about showing up. We don’t give out prizes or medals, just good vibes, occasional gifts like fruit, and a community that respects the culture. The reason we provide professional timing is to help you progress, train, and feel positive about measuring your own performance β€” and to keep you motivated.

What happens if I turn up late?

the start line stays open for 30 minutes after the advertised mass start. Just check in at the table, collect your timing tag, and start when you’re ready.
